Twenty-One Basics – Part One

The main concept of the game is to be assigned cards adding up to twenty one. Each player is given 2 cards. When a player is given a 9 or less and an Ace they have been given a soft hand. When the player is dealt no Ace cards it is called as a hard hand. Once the cards have been dealt all players at the table, including the dealer, every black jack player is provided the opportunity to make one of six choices:

Taking another card (Hit): When a blackjack player says hit me the dealer will deal them another card, if the adding of that card causes the value of the hand to exceed twenty-one the black jack player will have lost and that is the end of the game, if the card makes the value of the hand to twenty-one the player is the winner and if the value of the hand has not yet reached 21 they’re still in the game.

Keeping the hand you have been dealt: If a blackjack player is satisfied with the hand they’ll hold. Once this has happened the croupier will show his/her hand and the blackjack player who has accumulated 21 or the nearest to twenty one will win.

Doubling Down: A player may ask to double down which increases the bet by 100% they have laid. Once you’ve taken this action you can only receive one more card. The specifics of doubling down are often specified by the blackjack table or betting house rules so prior to competing be certain you’re familiar with the casino established rules. If you are wagering at an on-line betting house this is usually very simple.
